My friend Paul introduced me to charity: water. But he didn’t know it. He just had a tiny little link to it on a “signature file” he used while commenting in a discussion forum. I clicked on it.

He sent me this message after I took up the cause with charity: water. Totally humbling, but this is what is possible when you leverage the social web and what we call “Social Profit Streams” for the right reasons and with the full intention of making a significant impact in the lives of others. Quietly. Humbly. Tenaciously.

Hey Franco,

Thanks for joining the charity:water cause!

I need to share with you who inspired ME to take on this worthy effort …

YOU DID!

And you do not even know how you did it:)

As you know I have been absorbing your trainings and guidance for about a year now.
I actually look forward to checking my email each day and seeing the next pearls of
wisdom that you so graciously share with your tribe.

You know what has resonated with me the most over these past several months?

Your commitment to giving … your constant passion to over deliver … your
understanding of the power of “priming the pump” …

My family and I hit a couple of rough patches this past year. But as tough as things
may have been I knew that there were others in the world that had it much worse.

While absorbing one of your messages the light went on …

I knew that through some small gesture on my part I could have an impact on someone
else’s life.

You know what?

As I began to open my eyes I found that billions of people have it much worse that I do.
I found that millions of children die each year because they lack the basic essentials for
health and life.

Fortunately my quest brought me to Scott Harrison and his amazing story of the birth
of charity:water.

But here is the amazing part …

Once I started committing a portion of my profits and a portion of my efforts in supporting charity:water … I started to see a remarkable improvement in my own online and offline efforts. It would be easy to simply say it was a coincidence, But you and I know it is much more than that.

We are “priming the pump” through a commitment to giving. And through a small conscientious effort on our part we are touching the lives of thousands and making the world a better place for our children and their children to come…. simply by providing a drink of water. Life’s most basic requirement.

… and it all starts with a signature line or a brief insert in your next communication with your tribe.

Franco, I thank you for all you do. But mainly I thank you for making the world a better place.

God Bless,

Paul Upp
